San Antonio, TX. - The Southwestern Christian University men's bowling team traveled to San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, January 15th to compete in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference III Tournament.

The tournament, sponsored by Our Lady of the Lake University (San Antonio, Texas) was comprised of 11 teams from southwestern United States. Southwestern Christian and Our Lady of the Lake were the only tournament competitors from the NAIA division as the University of Houston, Louisiana State, Texas Tech, West Texas A&M, New Mexico, Sam Houston State, North Texas State, and Louisiana Lafayette represented the NCAA at the event.

West Texas A&M landed the championship trophy at the Bandera Super Bowl Lanes as SCU returned home with the sixth place finish. Three Eagles finished with a series above 850 with freshman Dylan Bunyard, of Yukon, Oklahoma, leading the way with an 882. Freshman Kelvin Rose recorded an 859 series while Kyle Smith, a freshman from Ponca City, Oklahoma bowled an 851 series for the Eagles. SCU's Landon Burnett bowled a 751 series and James Smith bowled a 746 series.

The tournament marks the first competition for the Eagles under the direction of the new head coach, Shaun Koonce, who was hired to take over the program at the beginning of January.

Next up for the Eagles will be the SWIBC Conference Championship Tournament on February 12th.
