MASON, Ohio — Southwestern Christian University slugged its way past Oakland City (Ind.) 9-2 and stayed unbeaten in pool play of the NCCAA World Series Thursday at Prasco Park.
SCU (39-23) clubbed three home runs against the 10th-seeded Mighty Oaks en route to improving to 2-0 in Pool B. The Eagles will take on Pool B's top-two seeds Friday for a chance to move on to the World Series semifinals.
Michael Lowe got the Eagles on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning when he smacked a three-run home run to right field.
SCU took a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Lowe led off the inning with a triple and scored when Justin Braziel bashed a homer down the left-field line. Three batters later, Anthony Ward capped the inning when he drove a 2-1 pitch over the left-field fence with a runner on first base.
A pair of RBI singles from Cody Robinson and Ward gave the Eagles a 9-0 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.
Oakland City managed a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but SCU was able to slam the door and picked up the the 9-2 victory.
Lowe went 3-for-3 at the plate and finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle. The senior first basemen walked in the first, homered in the third, tripled in the sixth and doubled in the seventh.
The Eagles will close out pool play with two games Friday. No. 6 SCU will face No. 3 Bethesda (Calif.) at 10 a.m. and finish with a 7 p.m. game against No. 2 Emmanuel (Ga.).
