Bartlesville, Okla. - The Southwestern Christian University women's basketball team shook things up in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday evening by recording an upset victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan University (8-9; 2-1 MCAC) in Bartlesville.

The Lady Eagles (7-11; 2-1 MCAC) defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 62-54 to improve their conference record to 2-1 on the season. Oklahoma Wesleyan, also dubbed as Eagles, also moves to 2-1 in conference play after recording victories over Haskell Indian Nations and Central Christian in Kansas over the weekend.

Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to a seven-point lead in the first five minutes of the game but a couple of fouls committed by OKWU helped Southwestern to tie things up mid-way through the first half. A three-pointer by Natasha Flynn gave SCU their first lead of the night shortly after. The teams knotted the score a total of five times before the break but SCU would hold the one-point advantage going into the locker room.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half as SCU shot 18.8 percent from the field and OKWU shot 28.1 percent.

Wesleyan scored first in the second half with a jump shot and point-after on the foul to take a two-point lead but Porchea Sanders nailed a three-pointer to give SCU the lead again. Southwestern rallied from there, leading by as many as 17 points with six minutes remaining in the game. OKWU's Nichole Tate scored six points in thirty seconds following to bring SCU's lead back down to 11. Wesleyan continued to battle SCU, but Southwestern's lead proved to be enough as the ladies held on for the 62-54 victory.

Southwestern shot significantly better in the second half, going 42.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.

Oklahoma Wesleyan outrebounded SCU 43-37 but committed 23 turnovers compared to SCU's 14.

Sanders led Southwestern in scoring with 14 points and four assists on the night. Kim Hayes and LaKaisha Jones added 10 points each and Allie McIntosh recorded nine points and eight boards.

OKWU's Nichole Tate led all scorers with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Shelby Graham added 13 points.

Even with the victory, SCU still remains at fourth in the conference while Oklahoma Wesleyan sits one spot above at number three.

Southwestern Christian will now set their sights on this weekend as they host College of Saint Mary (14-5; 2-1 MCAC) on Friday night at 5:30pm and York College (3-15; 0-3 MCAC) on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
