Matt Stephens enters his third year as sports information director at Southwestern Christian University.
Stephens serves as the primary media contact for the university’s 16 athletic programs including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s bowling, cheer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and volleyball.
He also serves as official scorer and scoreboard operator for Oklahoma City Energy FC of the United Soccer League.
Stephens joined the Eagles after spending three years as the assistant SID at Oklahoma City University, a fellow member of the Sooner Athletic Conference. At OCU, Stephens served as primary media contact for cheer and pom, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s golf, men’s and women’s track and men’s and women’s soccer. Stephens also assisted with baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s golf, softball, volleyball and wrestling.
Previously, he served as the media relations director for Oklahoma City FC, of the Premier Developmental League, for the franchise’s inaugural season in the summer of 2013.
Before joining the OCU athletic department, Stephens served as youth minister at the Central Church of Christ in his hometown of Shawnee, Okla.
Stephens earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Oklahoma Christian University in 2010. While at OC, he worked as a student assistant in the athletic department and served as sports reporter for the Talon, Oklahoma Christian’s student newspaper.
Prior to graduating from OC, he served as associate director of media relations for the Oklahoma Impact of the United Basketball League.
Stephens graduated from Tecumseh High School (Okla.) in 2005.
He lives in Yukon, Okla., with his wife, Megan, and daughter, Peyton.
